Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) in a cage at a chimp sanctuary. Chimps are an endangered species mainly due to destruction of their habitat. They live in forests and forest edges in western and central Africa. They are omnivorous primates which feed on fruits, leaves, insects and occasionally monkeys and even antelopes. They have been observed to make and use tools, which is considered a sign of high intelligence.
