Caption

Brown-throated three-toed sloth. Brown-throated three-toed sloth (Bradypus variegatus) clasping the bottom of a tree trunk. Sloths are tree- dwelling mammals with an extremely slow metabolism and low body temperature. They feed on leaves in the tropical evergreen forests of Central and South America. Due to their metabolism, three-toed sloths move very slowly, using the three claws on each of their limbs to help them to grip. Sloths are also competent swimmers. Photographed in Panama.
