Lodgepole chipmunk. View of a lodgepole chipmunk (Tamias speciosus) eating seeds. This small chipmunk lives in coniferous forests in the mountains around the western USA. These chipmunks feed mainly on seeds, fruit and insects. They store food in their cheek pouches and horde it at their nests. They hibernate in the winter. Chipmunks are an important prey animal for many bird and mammal species.
