Caption

Brant's whistling rat (Parotomys brantsii) peering out of a burrow. This gregarious rodent builds nests within chambers in a burrow system. It whistles to communicate with neighbouring rats, for example about predators. P. brantsii forages during the day. Photographed in Namaqualand, South Africa.
