Common dolphin. Long-beaked common dolphin (Delphinus capensis). This dolphin is found in all tropical, sub-tropical and warm temperate waters, mostly in coastal areas. Adults can reach lengths of up to 2.5 metres. It is a social animal, living in large groups, or pods, that usually number 100 individuals, but that can number thousands. The common dolphin is a fast swimmer and enjoys acrobatics. It is also highly vocal. Its calls sometimes being audible above water. It feeds on a diet of fish and squid.
