Canadian otter. View of a Canadian otter (Lutra canadensis) eating a trout (Salmo trutta) on ice beside a river. The otter has a long, streamlined body which is ideally suited to its habitat of lakes, streams and rivers. It builds a den in the river bank with an underwater entrance. Otters feed on fish, waterfowl and freshwater invertebra- tes. Canadian otters are found in much of the USA and Canada. Photographed in southern Montana, USA.
