American mink. View of an American or eastern mink (Mustela vison) in snow. American mink live near streams, rivers and lakes, provided there is sufficient cover, where they hunt rodents, fish and crustaceans by night. They are solitary animals, except during the breeding season. They are found in much of the USA and Canada. However they have also been introduced to Europe and Asia where they are farmed for their valuable pelts.
