Caption

Oriental small-clawed otter. Oriental small-clawed otter (Aonyx cinerea) standing beside water. This otter is found in parts of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, as well as in southern India and China. The otter's streamlined body is ideally suited to its habitat of rivers and coastal waters, where it is typically found in groups. These otters get their name from their tiny claws, which do not protrude beyond the ends of their finger pads. This gives their hands increased sensitivity, allowing them to locate the mussels, snails and crustaceans they eat in mud or under rocks. Photographed in Sarawak in Malaysia.
