Dead zorilla (Ictonyx striatus). This is a nocturnal predator that inhabits scrub, forest and grassland in southern and eastern Africa. Also known as a striped polecat, it spends the day hiding in a burrow, emerging at night to hunt rodents, insects, snakes, birds and frogs. When threatened, it can spray an irritant secretion from glands near its anus. This can cause severe stinging in the eyes of attackers. Photographed in southern Namibia.
