Brown bear. View of a female brown bear (Ursus arctos) with her cub at a river's edge. A fully grown brown bear has a body length of 2-3 metres and a body weight of 150-780 kg. They are basically vegetarian in nature, but will eat meat if necessary. They are extremely skilful at fishing for salmon. Brown bears are usually solitary animals or they exist in small family units consisting of a mother and cubs. The brown bear is found in much of Eurasia and North America. Photographed in the McNeil River, Alaska, USA.
