Polar bears. View of two polar bears (Ursus maritimus) resting in snow. Polar bears are large carnivores which inhabit the ice floes and coastal waters of the Arctic region. They mainly eat seals and fish, and are excellent swimmers. Polar bears wander between ice floes. They may be the largest land carnivore, with some specimens weighing over 700 kilogrammes. Photographed at Cape Churchill, Hudson Bay, Manitoba, Canada.
