Caption

Newborn grizzly bear. At this stage the cub is still blind and deaf as its ears and eyes have not opened. One to three cubs are born after a gestation lasting up to eight months. The mother gives birth in a cave during her winter rest. The young do not leave the cave until the spring, when they are a few months old. A cub may stay with its mother for over a year. The grizzly bear is a large carnivore which inhabits northern areas of Eurasia and western North America. It mainly eats vegetation, although it seems to prefer flesh when it is available.
