Western red fox. View of a western red fox (Vulpes vulpes macroura) crossing ice while carrying some voles (Microtus sp.) in its mouth. Foxes are an adaptable species and are found throughout the northern hemisphere. They are active both at day and at night, and feed on fruit, vegetables and small animals. Foxes live in dens, most commonly in deciduous woodland, but also venture into urban areas. Photographed in southern Montana, USA.
