Coyote (Canis latrans) running through deep snow. The coyote is also known as the prairie wolf, as its appearance is similar to that of the grey wolf. It feeds on small rodents, rabbits and carrion. Most active at night, it emits characteristic sharp barks and long howls. The coyote is found in open country from Alaska to Central America. Photographed near the Yellowstone River, Wyoming, USA.
