Frightened cat. Alarmed, frightened or aggressive domestic tabby cat (Felis catus). Often when a cat is frightened by another animal, it will arch its back and erect the hairs on its back and tail as seen here. It will also hold its tail slightly to the side (not clearly shown here). All this makes the cat seem larger than it normally is. This behaviour is often accompanied by a threatening metallic growl designed to scare off any menacing opponent.
