Dead leopard (Panthera pardus) with two nurses in the snows of Kilimanjaro. This frozen, mummified leopard carcass was discovered near the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, the highest mountain in Africa. The strange presence of the leopard at high altitude made it famous. It was immortalised in the 1938 short story The Snows of Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingway. Photographed in 1926.
