Mountain lion (Puma concolor) snarling. The mountain lion cannot roar, but it does have a wide range of vocal sounds. As a predatory carnivore, its large, sharp teeth are used to kill and eat its prey. The mountain lion is also known as the puma, panther or cougar. It is found in South and Central America, and the western parts of North America. It lives in a variety of habitats. Each individual has a large territory in which it hunts mammals such as deer. It hunts both by day and at night. It can climb trees, and also stalks and ambushes its prey. When not breeding, it is a solitary animal. It can reach lengths of over 2 metres, and weights of over 100 kilograms.
