Leopard seal. Leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx) in the water below Adelie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) on the ice. The leopard seal's favourite prey are penguins, which it chases underwater. Leopard seals are solitary animals found in open and coastal waters around Antarctica, as well as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and South America. Adelie penguins breed on the Antarctic coast in summer and spend the winter at sea.
