Caption

Southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) female. The southern elephant seal is the largest of the seals. A male may reach over six metres in length, but females are considerably smaller and lack the male's distinctive proboscis. The southern elephant seal lives in the waters around Antarctica, spending most of its life at sea. It comes ashore to mate, moult and to give birth. Photographed on Macquarie Island, Antarctica.
