Florida Manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris), a subspecies of the West Indian Manatee. One of only four surviving species of sirenians (sea cows); severely endangered, probably fewer than 2000 survive due to habitat loss and boat collisions. A vegetarian, can reach four metres in length and up to 1600 kilograms in weight. Found in both salt and freshwater, ranging from Virginia to Louisiana, USA, but mostly in Florida coastal waters and rivers. Photographed at Homasassa Springs, Florida, USA.
