Exmoor pony (Equus caballus) mother and foal. The foal is taking milk from its mother. Foals are born after a gestation period of around a year. The Exmoor pony is native to Britain, and has remained unchanged since the last Ice Age. It is renowned for its strength and endurance. Brand marks are seen on the mother's rump. These indicate the number of the pony. Exmoor ponies are extremely rare, and new foals are checked for pedigree and branded if they are pure. Photographed on Exmoor, UK.
