White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) buck (male) eating. This deer is found throughout the Americas except for northern Canada, southern South America and the south-western USA. It lives in forests in herds of between 10 and 20 individuals, feeding on leaves, grasses, herbs and small branches. The deer is named for its white tail, which is flashed during flight to confuse pursuers. Photographed in Texas, USA.
