Red deer doe (Cervus elaphus) lying in grass. These deer occupy upland areas of much of Europe, northwest Asia and northwest Africa. Groups of does congregate together in herds. During autumn, stags follow the herds and compete for the attention of the females. Red deer mating rituals are known as the rut. Photographed in October, in Surrey, UK.
