Red deer herd (Cervus elaphus) crossing a stream. There is one male and several females. Red deer are found throughout Europe, northwest Asia and northwest Africa. Groups of does congregate together in herds. During autumn, stags follow the herds and compete for the attention of the females. Red deer mating rituals are known as the rut.
