Klipspringer (Oreotragus oreotragus) grazing on vegetation. This herbivore feeds on grasses and can go for long periods without water, surviving on the liquid contained in the succulent plants which it eats. It spends the hottest part of the day resting among rocks, which it moves about with great agility, even where there is no apparent foothold. The bottom of the foot, beneath the hoof, has the texture of hard rubber, allowing the klipspringer to make impressive leaps and bounds whilst keeping its legs rigid. It is found in eastern Africa from Ethiopia south to South Africa. Photographed in the Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.
