Dall's sheep (Ovis dalli dalli) mother and lamb. A dall's sheep lamb is born in late May or early June after a gestation period of around 175 days. The lamb begins feeding on vegetation after 2 weeks and is fully weaned by the age of 3-5 months. These sheep are found in the high mountain ranges of north-western Canada and Alaska, USA. They feed on a wide variety of grasses and sedges, and will even eat lichens and mosses in the winter when parts of their range are covered with snow. Photographed in the Denali National Park, Alaska.
