Serous cavity filariasis life cycle. Diagram showing the life cycle of the parasitic nematode (roundworm) Mansonella ozzardi, one of the causes of serous cavity filariasis. It is transmitted to humans by the bite of Simuliu, sp. black flies and Culicoides sp. midges. Infection is usually asymptomatic, but may cause fever, joint pain and enlargement of the lymph nodes.
