Serous cavity filariasis life cycle. Diagram showing the life cycle of the parasitic nematode (roundworm) Mansonella perstans, one of the causes of serous cavity filariasis. It is transmitted to humans by the bite of Culicoides sp. midges. Infection is usually asymptomatic, but may cause fever, joint pain and swelling of subcutaneous tissues.
