Synthetic corundum. Corundum is a crystalline form of aluminium oxide (Al2O3) with traces of iron, titanium and chromium. This specimen of corundum was formed as a synthetic reduction product of a high temperature fusing process involving manganese oxide and aluminium. Synthetic corundum is used as a grinding material in industry due to it hardness. Specimen diameter is 110 millimetres.
