Sugar cane being burnt. Cultivated sugar cane is shredded and crushed to extract the sweet, sugary juices. Further refining is then carried out to produce sugar. Burning is done to clear the plantation of vegetation in preparation for the planting of a new crop. Photographed in Eshowe, South Africa.
