Blood loss amounts. Graduated cylinders comparing the amount of blood that is lost from internal bleeding after a violent blow to the body. In this case, the blow is to the stomach area, causing bleeding in the spleen. After six minutes 100 millilitres of blood (left) has been lost. After 30 minutes 500 millilitres of blood (centre). After 60 minutes a whole litre of blood has lost (right). Without emergency treatment, death will follow within a few hours. Because the bleeding is internal, a diagnosis may be made too late to save the patient.
