Abdominal aortic aneurysm. Artwork of a stent placed in the abdominal aorta to treat an aneurysm. The aorta is the body's main artery, it carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. An aneurysm is a blood-filled dilation in a blood vessel caused by a weakened vessel wall. A stent (wire mesh tube) has been placed inside the aorta to reinforce the aorta walls and prevent them from rupturing, which is often fatal.
