Caption

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). Nurse using a vacuum dressing on the foot of a diabetic patient. NPWT involves the controlled application of sub-atmospheric pressure to the wound using a vacuum pump (white) and a special dressing. The application of this pressure draws out excess fluid from the wound, increases blood flow to the area, and is thought accelerate closure of the wound, thus promoting wound healing. Photographed in Nice, France.
