Leningrad nuclear power station. Technicians in one of the reactor rooms, with the reactor cover and rod access hatches seen on the floor. This site has four RBMK-class reactors, where nuclear fission reactions take place and the energy released is used to generate electricity. The first reactor began operating in 1974, with the final reactor coming online in 1981. The site is located in the town of Sosnovy Bor, on the Gulf of Finland, in the St Petersburg region of Russia.
