Reflux apparatus used for boiling a reaction mixture without the loss of volatile compounds. The lower flask is heated and a reagent is added from the upper flask. Any vapour which boils off passes into the condenser, a tube surrounded by a cooling water jacket. The vapour cools and condenses on the side of the tube and then drips back down into the flask.
