Caption

A view of Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS 117) on launch pad 39A from the VIP area three miles away. Spectators, the countdown clock and flags are visible in the foreground. Close up of the main engines at the point of ignition. Cut to a wide shot which pulls back as the Shuttle clears the tower, enormous clouds of exhaust billowing out from the flame trenches on either side. View from the VIP stands again as Atlantis rises skywards on a column of fire. Closer tracking shots as Atlantis goes through its roll program to a heads down position as it continues to soar skywards - clearing an altitude of five miles before the end of the clip.
