Caption

Bunsen burner. This device (not in use) burns gas (supplied through the rubber tube at left) to produce a flame at top. It is used in the laboratory as a heat source in experiments, or for flame tests. The vent (lower centre) is in its open position, which draws air into the combustion mixture when in use. This leads to a stronger, hotter flame.
