Aragonite-covered crayfish. Dead crayfish (Astacus sp.) covered in a crust of aragonite. Aragonite is a variety of calcite (calcium carbonate) that is often deposited around hot springs. This specimen was retrieved from the Karlsbad hot springs in Bohemia, Czech Republic, and it might be considered as a very early form of fossilisation.
