Petra. Archaeologist using a thermal imaging camera to record the physical characteristics of the stone buildings in the ancient city of Petra. Petra was the capital of the Nabatean kingdom and was carved into a red sandstone gorge over 2000 years ago in what is now Jordan. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. This analysis will reveal the infiltration of chemical elements such as water and salt that accelerate erosion of the buildings, and help with the preservation of the site.
