The skin layers include an outer layer of dead skin cells (stratum corneum, top), below which is the epidermis, and then the dermis (thickest layer), with the hypodermis (subcutaneous tissue, yellow fat) at bottom. Blood vessels (red and blue) are also shown. Melanocytes are melanin (pigment) producing cells located in the bottom layer (stratum basale) of the epidermis.
