Primate finger bone. Coloured freeze-fracture scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section through a macaque phalange (finger bone). Bone marrow (red) fills the spaces in the central cancellous bone region. An epiphysal plate of proliferating cartilage is at top. Macaques are a type of Old World monkey. Magnification: x80 when printed at 10 centimetres tall.
