Mandibular retrognathism. Clinical view of the teeth of an orthodontic patient in a case of maxillary retrognathism (also called distocculsion and overjet). This type of malocclusion (Class II) is where one jaw is recessed and fails to protrude outwards as far as the other (normal) jaw. Here the lower jaw is shorter than the upper one. This case is further classified as Class II, Division 2. Orthodontics deals with misplaced or deformed teeth. Retractors (far left and far right) have been used to open the mouth.
