Fossil fish. Illustration depicting a fossil of Coccosteus decipiens, a placoderm that lived in the Devonian period 416-359 million years ago. Placoderms are a type of fish that had an armoured head, the remains of which is to the left of this image. This illustration was first published in 'Monographie des poissons fossils du Vieux Gres Rouge' by Louis Agassiz, printed at Neuchatel in 1844.
