Artery wall tissue, light micrograph. This is the elastic tissue found in large arteries where the blood flows at a high pressure. This sample is from the middle layer (tunica media) of the aorta, the body's main artery. This layer contains smooth muscle and elastic tissue. The tissue seen here consists of elastin bundles separated by the connective tissue collagen.
