Bromoethane synthesis from hydrogen bromide (hydrobromic acid, HBr) and ethene (C2H4). The reactants are heated in a pear shaped flask (centre left). Bromoethane (ethyl bromide, C2H5Br) has a boiling point of 38.5 degrees Celsius, and rises up the flask as a gas. It then cools on the glass side arm (centre) and flows into the beaker (bottom right corner).
