Euglena flagellate protozoan. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a Euglena sp. flagellate protozoan present in a urine sample taken from someone with a urinary tract infection (UTI). Euglena sp. is a freshwater unicellular (single-celled) organism that obtains energy either from sunlight by photosynthesis, or by absorbing chemicals from its surroundings. Magnification: x1000 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
