Met Office Canberra aircraft. This is a Canberra aircraft being prepared for a Meteorological Research Flight (MRF) for the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. The Canberra aircraft, an early jet bomber dating from the 1950s, is capable of flying to very high altitudes (over 20 kilometres). Canberras are still used in the 21st century for meteorological work. Two meteorologists are inspecting the weather probe instrumentation boom (red and white) mounted on its nose.
