Magnetometer at Kew Observatory. Magnetometers are used to measure the strength and direction of a magnetic field. Kew Observatory, established in 1769, was an astronomical and geophysical observatory. It included equipment operated by the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. Magnetic and meteorological observations were carried out here until 1980, when the Met Office facilities were relocated. Kew Observatory is located in Old Deer Park, Richmond, London, UK.
