Venous valve. Artwork showing the anatomy of a vein. Veins carry deoxygenated blood from the body to the heart and lungs. Within hte lumen of the vein are venous valves, one-way flaps that prevent blood from flowing back along the vein. They are constructed by infoldings of the tunica intima, the innermost layer of the vein wall.
