Voigt Woldemar (1850-1919), German physicist. Woldemar worked on crystal physics, thermodynamics and electro-optics. He discovered the Voigt effect, the double refraction of light passing through a vapour that is placed in a magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of light propagation.
